CSR Mumbai Centre

Research Activities

The Mumbai Centre of the Consortium for Scientific Research (CSR) is located inside the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) at Trombay. The Mumbai Centre facilitates the utilization of large scale research facilities available at BARC by scientists and students from universities and various academic institutions across the country. In particular, university scientists and students are provided access to the National Facility for Neutron Beam Research (NFNBR) at Dhruva reactor. This is done through the Collaborative Research Scheme (CRS) program of the Centre.

Recently, scientists of the Centre, in collaboration with various university groups, have developed and installed a neutron beamline at the Dhruva reactor. A powder diffractometer has been installed (PD-3) on this beamline along with a unique sample environment for carrying out neutron diffraction experiments at low-temperatures and high magnetic fields. This diffractometer is mainly used for characterization of novel magnetic materials.

Various in-house facilities that are complementary techniques for neutron experiments, have been procured or developed at Mumbai Centre (see the In-house facilities webpage for details) and are available for researchers.

CSR-Mumbai Centre is actively involved in research in the areas of magnetism and dielectric spectroscopy. Some work is also being carried out using Dynamic Light Scattering technique.
