COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH SCHEMES using facilities under UGC-DAE
Consortium for Scientific Research, Mumbai Centre and NFNBR, BARC, Mumbai
The UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research, an autonomous institution
of the University Grants Commission (UGC), provides an interface between
university researchers and various institutes under the Department of Atomic
Energy (DAE). The Mumbai Centre of UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research
(UGC-DAE CSR) in collaboration with the Solid State Physics Division (SSPD),
BARC, has been promoting and supporting neutron beam research among researchers
from various universities and other research organizations from all over India
for more than a decade.
The Solid State Physics Division, BARC, has been operating since the
early nineties the National Facility for Neutron Beam Research (NFNBR).
This facility includes neutron scattering experimental stations at Dhruva
reactor, and other supporting facilities in different locations of SSPD within
BARC. The facilities under the NFNBR have been regularly used by researchers
from various universities / institutions. Further details about the NFNBR may
be obtained from Head, Solid State Physics Division, Bhabha Atomic Research
Centre, Mumbai 400085 (eMail :chaplot
at barc dot gov dot in). Any scientist of SSPD or
UGC-DAE CSR may also be contacted for preparing a research proposal.
Mumbai Centre of UGC-DAE CSR has recently installed at Dhruva Reactor,
BARC a powder diffractometer having sample environment going down to 1.6 K and
high magnetic fields of up to 7 Tesla. Besides, the Centre has some facilities
for magnetization measurement, sample preparation, X-ray diffraction, dielectric
relaxation, and electrical transport. Facilities such as static and dynamic
light scattering and rheometry are also available. For details, please visit
the website www.csr.res.in
CSR Mumbai Centre invites
proposals from
researchers in universities and other academic organizations for Collaborative
Research Schemes (CRS) on facilities under NFNBR and Mumbai Centre of UGC-DAE
CSR. Any faculty member from a recognized university or academic organization
may submit the proposal. UGC-DAE CSR provides financial support in the form (i)
fellowship for student, (ii) grant for travel to Mumbai for experiments, and
(iii) grants for minor contingency and chemicals.
The proposal can be submitted any time. It will be peer reviewed and the
Principal Investigator (PI) is expected to present the proposal in front of a
reviewing committee. Typically, the CRS is granted for a three year term
subject to satisfactory progress monitored annually in a project review
meeting. One time experiments or short term projects can also be considered for
doing specific measurements.
A fast
track process for rapid assessment of front line proposals is also available. The CRS proposal format is available here.
